Reasons to Invest

  • The Nkomazi SEZ is an attractive investment destination, especially for the agriculture and agro-processing, nutraceuticals and fertilizer production sectors.
  • It offers a unique opportunity to reduce the costs of freight by creating an inland port that can handle cargo containers and bulk material transport through the transhipment of road cargo to rail (intermodal) then Maputo port, thereby reducing the truck congestion on the roads.
  • It will provide responsive industrial infrastructure that follow, in the main, a green infrastructure theme to support businesses operating into the zone. The Maputo Corridor is a major transport and economic development corridor in Southern Africa, linking Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo Province in South Africa with the Port of Maputo in Mozambique. It is one of the most important regional infrastructure initiatives in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Overview
  • Countries involved: South Africa, Mozambique (with indirect benefits to Eswatini and other SADC members).
  • Main route: Johannesburg (Gauteng) → Nelspruit (Mpumalanga) → Komatipoort (border) → Maputo (Mozambique).
  • 2nd Main route: Limpopo → Nelspruit (Mpumalanga) → Komatipoort (border) → Maputo (Mozambique).
  • 2nd Main route: Limpopo → Nelspruit (Mpumalanga) → Komatipoort (border) → Maputo (Mozambique).
  • Transport infrastructure:
    • Road: N4 highway (also known as the Maputo Corridor Toll Route).
